Listen to... Leah LaBelle - Lolita

Listen to... Leah LaBelle - Lolita | randomjpop.blogspot.co.uk

Pharrell and Jermaine Dupri's latest signee Leah LaBelle is back to make a shot at the charts after "Sexify" stalled at 89 on the Billboard chart.

As with "Sexify", "Lolita" features production courtesy of Pharrell Williams with a beat which is all about the bassline. Exhibiting a 70's to mid 80's funk and a soulful vocal from Leah which has her sounding as though she's vying for the position as the 21st century Teena Marie.

"Lolita" is a hot song. It's fresh, it's funky, it's different from what is on the radio right now, but it is not single material. This song lacks that same hit single quality which prevented "Sexify" from really taking off despite being a really nice song. If Pharrell wants Leah to be taken notice of, he's going to have to give her that Neptunes filth which sounds so horrendous and obnoxious that nobody will be able to ignore it. Leah is not enough of a household name that she can be putting out these mellow tracks without big choruses out as singles. Not in a soundscape where big choruses are everything.

  1. This doesn't sound studio quality.

It sounds like a vocal guide honestly.

I doubt with those weak vocals and weak image that Leah will ever take off, she'll probably be dropped soon.

Too bad that bass line was wasted on this song.

  2. I have never seen this person before but based off of the above picture alone, her face reminds me of me.
