Listen to... Mutya Keisha Siobhan - Lay down in swimming pools

Mutya Keisha Siobhan - Lay down in swimming pools |

Only the original Sugababes would record a song for fun, let their producer put it out on Twitter for shits 'n' giggles and shit on every other female group in the process.

For legal reasons the original line-up have had to reform under the simple and imaginative name Mutya Keisha Siobhan. But to those of us who remember these girls back when they were singing in some budget looking knock off of a Gap commercial about trains stopping at unknown destinations, they are the Sugababes. Fuck those other bitches.

The Sugababes have been recording their debut / second studio album over the past 2 years. Every time a story surfaces about the album being complete one of the girls tweets they are in the studio. So far the girls have worked with MNEK, Emile Sandé, Shaznay Lewis of the All Saints and Brian Higgins of Xenomania. And the latest guy to come into the fold is Devonte Hynes. Those who know this guy will know of the amazing work he did with Sky Ferriera on "Everything is embarasssing" and Solange Knowles' EP True. Not only dees this come as good news, but it comes with an instant treat too.

I always disliked whenever the Sugababes tried to do R&B as it never sounded right. But this fits the girls nicely. I'm not keen on the verses; but the hook, the bridge and the run of the original Kendrick chorus are gold. It's nice to hear their voices together again. No Sugababes album has featured harmonies as strong as the ones on display on this song.

  1. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! I've been NEEDING this for a while! I really do miss the Sugababes how they were... :(

This album is going to be E'ER'THANG!!!

    1. Their vocals on the chorus >>>>>>>>>>
It's so good hearing these girls' voices together again.

I really hope their new album is good and that their label and A&R let them tap into that sound that made them so popular in the first place. Everything I'd read about the album prior didn't fill me with confidence. The girls described their work with UK producer / songwriter MNEK as sounding like Rihanna, which killed a part of me - because that is NOT their sound. And then they were talking about a song they'd done with a member of Blazing squad. Fuck that shit.

I'm glad Devonte Hynes is in the mix now because his style and what he can bring to the table is more what I envisioned for these girls musically. If his work with Sky, Solange and THIS track is anything to go by, Dev won't put a foot wrong.

All Polydor records need to do is have Dev Hynes, Cameron McVey and Jony Rockstar work on the album and that's it. I'm sceptical of Brian Higgins' involvement. His work with the Sugababes was amazing, but Xenomania's output has gotten really bad over the years. But I'm intrigued to hear what he has done with the girls - as he hasn't worked with Keisha and Mutya since 'Taller in more ways' and it'd mark his first time working with Siobhan.

  2. The chorus is fire! I'm glad they're back. Siobhan killed the bridge!!!

  3. Oh god this is amazing....I got goosebumps hearing them all together and hearing Siobhan in that middle 8 REALLY gave me the chills. Its great they're all together again as I was a fan ever since Overload, looking forward to hearing what they have next!!!!

Meanwhile Heidi, Amelle and Jade are pretty much unemployed lol. They made their own beds and had it coming anyways so I don't pity them.
