Ricky likes the dicky

He bangs! [by Random J ;P]Ricky Martin came out via his website a few days ago, much to equal surprise and no surprise. Rumors of his sexuality had been circling the poor guy for years, and now he finally felt the time was right to tell the world in a pretty nice little post on his official website. Yep! He came out online. I surprised he didn't Tweet himself out of the closet. Twitter be the forum for everything these days.
What will happen from now on? It doesn't matter. I can only focus on what's happening to me in this moment. The word "happiness" takes on a new meaning for me as of today. It has been a very intense process. Every word that I write in this letter is born out of love, acceptance, detachment and real contentment. Writing this is a solid step towards my inner peace and vital part of my evolution. I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.
Ricky's post was much longer, but don't nobody care about the rest. They just want that last line. And I doubt they even care about that. Ricky's coming out wasn't all that explosive or seen as a majorly big deal.

If you listen carefully, you can hear women breakin' dishes and calling up their home girls like "Damn, that's a waste right there...". And also those in 'the community' like "Psssch, big deal. You should've come out when it mattered". But who are we to say when somebody should come out? It's easy to be a bystander and say somebody should, without actually being them. For some it's easy. For some it isn't. I guess for Ricky Martin it just wasn't. It's understandable. He had the world's eyes on him, and a lot at stake. His whole image back during the "Livin' la vida loca" days would've been trampled on if he came out then.

If anything, this could help him. Women will stay lovin' him, insistent they can turn him for just one night. And gay guys can finally reside themselves with thinking they actually have a shot with him now.

The song "She bangs" takes on a whole new meaning in light of Ricky's homosexuality. That shit should re-release with "with a strap on" tagged next to its title in brackets.

Comments

  1. Spot on, J. There was a lot of comments coming out of the gay community to the tune of "Tell me something I don't know/We knew years ago/Who cares?/Should've come out a long time ago." And it just strikes me how easily forget the difficulties they faced coming out. It's not easy for anyone to do, much less a celebrity whose career and lifestyle are at the mercy of millions of people. Lest we forget, a few years back we lived in a world where Doogie Howser, Lance Bass, and Clay Aiken were in the closet. And there are plenty of celebs who are still in there. Good for Ricky.
