Q: Who is the best selling female artist of the 2000's? A: It's Britney bitch!

Oops! She did it again | 'shopped by J ;P
The RIAA announced that Britney has sold over 100 million albums, making her the best selling artist of the past decade! Can't I get a Dayum!! Thanks ya verrr murrrch.

Britney got off to a ridiculous start when she dropped ...Baby one more time and its follow up Oops!...I did it again - both of which went Diamond for certified sales of over 10 million in the US alone, and sold around 20 million units worldwide. Britney then continued to top the Billboard charts with every one of her studio album releases. Blackout was the exception however, killing the number 1 streak and only making it to number 2. But it still managed to shift 3 million units worldwide and sit within the top ten in UK, Europe, Australia and Japan. Not bad considering the album got completely overshadowed by the unscripted reality show which was her mess of a life at the time and that VMA performance.

Say what you will about Britney's live stage game and her inability to actually sing - but 100 million units sold is a big deal. A very big deal.

It's crazy how this chick can still sell records and sell out a tour without even really trying. Christina should send Britney a signed copy of Bionic in congratulations, so that Britney can use it as a drinks coaster for her celebratory glass of Rosé.

  1. Just goes to show you: you don't need to be able to sing to make it big in this industry.

    Take notes kids!

Her fans obviously don't require much in the ways of actual quality. Buying her CD is one thing, but going to see this chick on tour?! Wow.

  2. Well, to be honest, I'm a Britney fan. It's just something about seeing your favorite artist live that does something for you. And her shows are always such a huge spectacle.

Besides, I'm sure she can sing better than Whitney Houston. (If this was 20 years ago, and I said something like that, I'd be laughed off. Oh, how times have changed.)

Besides, Brit is a cultural icon. Only 10 years in the game and she's managed to sell half of what Madonna's sold worldwide.

  3. And she needs to thank her lucky stars for fans like you. Because quite frankly, it astonishes me that somebody with no singing talent whatsoever has been able not only get by in the last 10 years but, as this post says, break records.

"It astonishes me that somebody with no singing talent whatsoever has been able not only get by in the last 10 years"

Why does it? Singing talent doesn't equate to success. You know that. Just look at Madonna and Janet Jackson. They didn't get to where they are now because of the strength of their singing ability. And if singing ability equated to success then: Christina Aguilera's Bionic wouldn't be sliding across Best buy stock room floors as door stops, Kiley Dean would have 3 platinum albums and have been on a world tour, JoJo would actually have a career, and The Forehead would have got dropped before "If it's lovin' that you want" got to be a single.

  5. Janet and Madonna can at least carry a tune. And the "Forehead" sounds at least pretty good on her best days. And I know that singing ability doesn't equate to success, but that doesn't mean it still doesn't astonish me.

And please, don't mention poor Kiley. That's still a sad tale. Opportunity for a real and strong voice to supplant the Britney's of the world (ironic that Kiley was her back up singer at one point) and it never comes through. And she's hot to boot.

    Maybe someday...

  6. she had the complete package back then; she can dance, hot body, virginal and cute personality, ear-friendly songs and hot videos and a lil bit of singing talent. unlike xtina though she had a strong voice has a stinky attitude to the media and fans.

  7. Congrats to Britney, loving the image you provided J - you still have one of the best sense of humours on the net.

As for the whole 'she can't sing arguement'; Yyu can have the greatest voice in the world; but if you don't know how to sell yourself, the music or have the right singles pushed, you won't make it. Anastacia has a strong voice but failed to break in America. Robbie Williams didn't have the best voice from Take That but he's one of the most successful solo male singers of all time.

To me, it's not always the voice, the artists I like don't have the greatest vocals, but they tend to have catchy tunes, play a heavy role in creating their sound or just seem genuine.

  10. I should have just saved time and wrote what Beruda did, LOL!

  11. By the way, I feel like I should clarify something. Not every artist I like has the greatest vocal ability in the world. That's not really what singing is all about. For example, I love bands like Maroon 5 and Onerepublic. Their lead guys aren't the greatest singers in the world but they have a good enough voice for their style of music.

On the flip side, just because somebody has a great voice doesn't mean I like them. Take Christina Aguilera for example. She has an excellent voice but I think she uses it to sing a lot of crap songs. Another example would be somebody like a Susan Boyle who obviously has a good voice, but if I listen to too much of her music I'm liable to go into a coma.

As I've said before, singing is much more than just being able to hit big notes. Take Brandy for example. Her voice is like sugar coated roasted pecans at Christmas, so rich...so warm...amazing (and quite tasty).

Just wanted to get that off muh chest, if it's worth anything lol. :)

  12. I agree Junlee. Mariah can hit as many hit notes as she wants, but there's nothing that will make me like her.

In the end the reason we like an artist is because of their songs; we don't hear a song on a radio and think right away "S/he's got a good voice", we mostly pay attention to the melody, which is what grabs us in the first place. It's really only after a song's grabbed us that we get to know the voice behind it and make our mind up whether we like them enough to be a fan and check out their other work and make judgements on what we think of them.
