When I heard that Kyary Pamyu Pamyu was releasing a new song, I immediately thought 'I wonder which already released Perfume song this shit gon' sound like?' But Pussy Pam producer Yasutaka Nakata actually turned out something new for her. Well...That's kind of a lie. The sound is far from new. Does it sound like a Perfume song? Well, yes. Of course it does. But it's pretty decent, so let's just go with it. We also get the debut of Kyardi P dropping bars.
When I saw the video open with Kyary on a toilet, I thought she was going to make this real easy for me. But even my shady ass is thankful that she didn't.
Pussy Pamyu seems to be transitioning from her crazy outfits into more low key (and dare I say it) standard looks. She's looking like a young woman and its a good look for her.
Pussy Pam has been defined by her outfits over the years, but they don't make her who she is and the visuals of this video kinda prove that. Pamyu Pamyu is not a package which is the sum of its parts. As long as one element of the package is still strong and on brand, the whole thing still works. Kyary not wearing a candy cane in her hair a giant tulle skirt, with stuffed Corgi's on her titties, a giant fanged mouth on her vagina and shoes made of Haribo goldbears doesn't lessen the visual in any way. It was quite refreshing to see her in a simplified look. It'll be interesting to see how long this sticks for. Not that Kyary's music career will go on for much longer anyway. But it's good to see that her image is starting to reflect her age without bastardising her brand. If only Perfume's stylists would do something similar with them.
