Music video: Kero Kero Bonito go lo-fi for "Make believe"

Music video: Kero Kero Bonito - Make believe | Random J pop

UK trio Kero Kero Bonito are back with a new single "Make believe", along with a unique World tour announcement in the form of a song and a brand new album that surfaced with no announcement. The surprise drop wasn't that much of a surprise, given that after a string of singles and a world tour announcement, an album was always imminent. They ain't Beyonce. Not every bitch can announce a sell out World tour with no album.

Kero Kero Bonito's sound was pop as fuck. I'm talking some Kawaii shit, J-Pop like, could even pass for Perfume back in the day type pop. So this transition into lo-fi Indie is a surprise. But it works for them. "Make believe" feels like some ABBA and Cardigans type shit, which I'm here for.

It's going to be interesting to hear how KKB sit their older material alongside their new stuff for their tour - whether they choose to re-arrange their older material to fit in with their newer sound or whether they'll leave them as they are.

For a slice of Kero Kero Bonito's old sound, check out their bop "Trampoline" which sounds like some fly 80s Perfume realness. Shit features a Japanese rap for a bridge, a key change and a chorus (which YouTube user BunniBuu had pointed out) that sounds a bit like the Evangelion theme.

File Kero Kero Bonito under 'Acts and producers I've love to work with Perfume'. Because I know Nocchi would love something with a bit of a punk edge to whip her little onigiri bob to.
