Redemption for Glitter: How Mariah should give airtime to an old album, seeing as Sony won't give it to her latest one

Mariah has been on a personal roll as of late. Her fifteenth studio album was a return to musical form and a far better album than I or I believe many of us ever expected it to be. Her voice is sounding the best it's sounded for a minute and she genuinely seems to be enjoying life, her tour, the company of those around her and appreciating the love from her fans in a way that she hasn't done in a really long time. But commercially...chile. Caution greatly under-performed. We all know that Mariah's ability to sell units in excess isn't quite what it was. But her record label certainly didn't go out of their way to prime her album for success.

I've been very vocal about the fact that Sony screwed Mariah over and that...yet again, undermined her completely. I struggled to get a physical copy of Caution, because no stores had it. I don't live in some Silent hill ass village in the middle of nowhere that only has one convenience store, a post box, a bus stop and fuck all else. I live in London. And it took me 4 weeks to find a copy out in these streets. Whenever I'd pass a supermarket or a music store, I would pop in only to find no trace of Caution, but every other album that had released on the same day was on the shelves. Stores even had her Christmas album ya'll. Sony clearly didn't ship enough units out, which should be disconcerting for Mariah and her UK Lambily. Especially given that Mariah was in London during late November / December to perform her Christmas show.

And now we get a remix to "A no no", which features an artist that had no business being on the song and makes zero sense. The moment I heard Stefflon Don was on the "A no no" remix, I knew it was a label decision and not a Mariah one. Mariah wouldn't have known who the hell a Stefflon Don is. And why would she put her on a remix when she'd already talked up Lil' Kim? Mariah retweeted a fan made mash-up of "A no no" and Lil' Kim's verse from "Crush on you", which "A no no" samples. Mariah has also said that she'd love to have Lil' Kim and Cardi B on a remix after there was so much online chatter calling for the two to feature on it. Lil' Kim had tweeted in adoration of Mariah after her appearance on Andy Cohen's 'talk show' where she had said she loved Lil' Kim and wanted to do something with her. I see no reason why they wouldn't have done it. It's not like Lil' Kim is busy and Cardi B will do anything to secure a bag. Rumour has it that the remix exists, but we ain't never gon' hear it. Because Sony.

So basically, Sony is trying to pull a fast one on Mariah. Again. Even though a bitch is on top form, turned in a great album and is doing everything in her power to promote it. And to this, I say that Mariah should fuck Caution and give Glitter the promo it deserves instead. If Sony wanna play games, then bitch. Let's play a game.

We have already gotten justice for Glitter. Now it's time for redemption for Glitter.

As a result of Justice for Glitter, Mariah has been forced to be vocal about her 2001 no-longer-a-flop and has spoken more about it than she has in years. It represented a dark time in her life and a fall from grace, so it makes sense she wouldn't be in a rush to shed light on it. But with her now being in a place where she can talk about it in a positive light and know that there is love for an album that she was led to believe everybody hated, she should give Glitter the time of day that Sony are refusing to give Caution.

So here's some things Mariah should do.

1. Put Glitter on streaming services
Mariah has hopped between labels over the years. Starting out at Sony. Then jumping over to Virgin,  who let her ass go because Glitter was such a mess. To then find a home at Universal. Just to end up back at Sony again. Whilst it's completely possible that Virgin are the ones withholding Glitter from streaming platforms globally, there is also a likelihood that Mariah herself is the one blocking it. Virgin and Mariah undoubtedly share similar opinions on the Glitter debacle. Virgin were probably like 'Let's not even' and Mariah was like 'Fine with me!'. Some countries can stream the album, but THE WHOLE WORLD should be able to stream it dahling.

Despite saying she was always proud of the album, just the fact that it existed was something that was just too painful to talk about. But with the #JusticeForGlitter movement showing Mariah outright that her fans didn't hate the soundtrack the way she thought they did and that there is love for it, Mariah should definitely get her people to get it up on streaming services globally. I'd want her to do it now to fuck with Sony. But it'd probably make more sense for her to do it on the anniversary of its release.

2. Shoot music videos for Glitter songs
Mariah is having a lot of fun in her career right now. And irregardless of Sony's shady dealings, Mariah has the funds to do what she likes and remain unbothered at their attempts to stop bags that she don't even need. So, I say that she pulls a team together and shoots a video for a Glitter track or two. Just for fun.

I vote "Didn't mean to turn you on", because I'm biased and that's my favourite song on the album. To try and give the music video a Caution vibe, she could go with the same blue and pink colour scheme she went for in the "A no no" video. Just for branding consistency, as Glitter's colour scheme was pretty similar anyway. It's also the one song on Glitter that I feel Mariah could still sing now with her current voice without any real trouble. So she could easily slot it into her tour setlist. Give us a video for "Last night a DJ saved my life" too. But edit out Fabulous and his wife beating ass.

3. Drop a "Loverboy" remix that features Lil' Kim and Cardi B
Seeing as Sony reportedly forced a remix onto us that we didn't want and shelved the one that we did. Mariah should acquire the masters to her 2001 bop "Loverboy" and get Lil' Kim and Cardi B on a remix.

A "Loverboy" remix featuring Lil' Kim and Cardi B would be so sublime. Especially if she had them shoots scenes in the exact same style as the original video and cut them into it. Sony would be pissed. BUT OH WELL. Also, let me say on record that "Loverboy" was a bop, Da Brat's verse was fire and Mariah looked great in that video. C'MON LEGS.

4. Do fan sing-a-long screenings of the film
The Glitter soundtrack wasn't what everybody shitted on and hated. It was the film. But even so, there were and still are dedicated ass Lambs that loved the hell out of it. Since its catastrophic release, Glitter has gone on to achieve slight cult status as one of those films that's so bad that it's good. Mariah should embrace the flop and give the Lambs what they want. Set up special screenings in select cities in the US for fans to get together, kick it, chill and sing-a-long to the movie. Me personally, I couldn't sit through that film again sober. The first experience is still preserved in my mind and I recall wondering why I'm still even. I'd need to be drunk and have pizza slices coming in on demand to be able to sit through Glitter again. But it's not about me.

For Sony to have the damn nerve to sabotage Mariah, even now. Old wounds run deep it seems. In 10 years time, maybe we'll get #JusticeForCaution. But until then... *Shrugs*
