I'll start by saying that if you have no idea who Joseph of Mercury is, then think Lana Del Rey meets Duran Duran. That's the best I can do y'all. But it's not entirely untrue.
Now.
Joseph of Mercury has been releasing songs in what her refers to as waves, and "MVA" is the third song from the third wave. Each wave basically makes up an EP's worth of material, and it's 'waves' as in the thing that wiped out the whole of a public pool in China, because waves is Joseph of Mercury's symbol. Branding innit. But of course it has dual meaning.
Wave II saw Joseph getting a bit funky now and then, but he seems to be embracing it far more readily with "MVA" and his previous 2 releases "Pretenders" and "Out on my mind". So much so that it's wholly defining Wave III sonically, in ways that Waves I and II weren't.
Joseph of Mercury's waves aren't grouped on streaming platforms, oddly. Not even as playlists. So of course I went and created them, because that's me. Doing the most for no damn reason. Joseph of Mercury came up with the whole waves concept after he released his debut EP, which is now considered Wave I, so these songs can all be found together as an EP on all streaming platforms. I have created playlists for Waves II and III on Spotify and Google Play Music. Y'all Apple music users will just have to search 'Joseph of Mercury' and just do whatever.
There's no word of a full length album, another EP or anything. Joseph of Mercury is just releasing music, doing gigs and pretty much winging the music thing. I like that he's Indie and able to just release music how he likes, but it's a shame that he's not bigger. He has a very clear vision for his image and sound, both of which are so well packaged. There's definitely a place in the big league music game for him.
