Perfume go back in time for their P cubed (P³) TV commercial | Random J Pop

Perfume's first, second or third Best album (depending on who you ask and what you count as a 'Best' album between this, Love the world and Complete best) is due in just 2 days. Which means that it's TV commercial time.

In true Perfume fashion, the TV commercial is quirky and not your average montage of music videos or slow mo shot footage of a photoshoot that we usually get when it comes to Best album commercials.

I had to do a double take when I saw Nocchi in her Game look. I wondered if this commercial was made from existing footage that Perfume had shot for other shit. But no. This is each member of Perfume recreating their album sleeve looks. It's a great concept and it's uncanny how they look exactly as they did from each album release, which is the bonus of pretty much keeping your look consistent over time. Plus, they ain't white. So age don't hit them as bad.

Perfume ain't ever played when it comes to visuals. Their thing has always been to define an album phase with a particular look, looks of which fans can easily identify and trace back to a song or point in Perfume's long career. And every music video has some form of motif, all of which featured in this video for fans to catch. I'm sure there's a tumblr post somewhere which breaks them all down. Some are obvious (Triangle > Clapperboard > I still love you. Cosmic explorer > White box frame > Relax in the city) and others are almost Easter egg like ( JPN > Coloured pattern on the back of the JPN sign > Voice).

The run through of the album tracklist in the bottom left corner was a really nice touch too.

I'm looking forward to seeing the photobook for this, because Perfume have shot hella photos for this release and worked styles 'n' looks which are far more editorial than I've ever seen them give for an album. We usually only get this shit when they do magazines.
