Tame Impala. Bitch. "It might be time". | Random J Pop

Tame Impala had released a song at the top of the year, with nothing on a new album. Now we get another song, an album title and a release date. The album is called the Slow rush and is released on February 14, 2020 and the new song is called "It might be time". Fitting. Because I know fans been waiting on this shit, and the song is basically about just doing what you know needs to be done.

What is it with artists reading themselves in their songs as of late?

The subject matter of "It might be time" is a very real one for all of us, in every sense. We all have things that we cling to, ultimately knowing we need to let them go 'cos it just don't bang like it used to. And many of us forget that life isn't forever, yet we push things back as though we have all the time in the world, when it's the one thing we don't have. Sometimes life doesn't afford us the option to face our shit. But when given the option, sometimes we choose not to, out of fear, reluctance or because we always think we can do it later.

Chile. I know I can relate. 2019 was a year where I put A LOT of things off that I know I'mma have to face in 2020. And there are many things that I need to let go of and just accept.

And in this age that we live in, a big thing is relevance. Time seems to move faster now because of the rate at which things are available, at which we consume and how easy it is for those who get put on or are trying to get out on, just get lost in crowds. The turn over of artists, celebs, trends and fads continues to accelerate. So we're always talking about how it might be time for this person to stop, for this person to blow up, for this person to take a seat. And this is one of the angles I feel that "It might be time" is taking. Maybe Tame Impala front man Kevin Parker is talking about himself as a musician. Or maybe he's referring to making his family a priority over his music.

The music itself paints a whole picture. One that can mislead you because of how it slaps. The song sonically sounds like a journey through feelings or a thought process which mirrors the subject matter of the lyrics. From feeling free and everything being fine. To acting like things are fine, but ignoring it. To then being stared in the face by all the things, being crippled with anxiety, and not being able to move on until you make the decision to truly address them.

This was pretty much me when I listened to the song.

[Keyboards at the start]
Me: *Body rolling*
[Drums hit]
Me: Stank face and two-stepping
[Sirens pop off]
Me: *Sits down* 'Oh, so this is some real shit'.

This song read me and even dragged me a little bit. But I adore it.
