The omission of Aaliyah from streaming services has long been a point of contention for fans and R&B lovers for years now. But the wait could be over, as it's rumoured that Aaliyah could be hitting streaming services next year on January 16, which is her Birthday.
Blackground records owner and Aaliyah's Uncle, Barry Hankerson, has been the reason behind Aaliyah's music being absent from streaming services. We don't know whether it was because he was being selfish or acting on behalf of her parents who didn't want it, or maybe he was expecting Apple and Spotify to beg him for it. Whatever the reason is for Aaliyah's abscence from streaming platforms, it don't make no fucking sense. Aaliayh doesn't even have the most extensive discography, but what she has is solid and widely loved. Timbaland fans love it. Missy fans love it. R&B heads love it. Even Pop fans loved Aaliyah's shit. Who could deny "Try again" and "More than a woman"!?
Let's see if this release to streaming actually happens.
Complex put out a great piece on the enigma and mess that is Aaliyah's uncle.
I'mma also keep my fingers crossed that Blackground release JoJo's shit too. The re-records are very welcomed, but we need the originals too.
