Adidasyoncé posted a photo of herself drinking a martini and the Beyhive ran with that shit as a possible sign that The Amazonian empress from the kingdom of lost wigs was letting on that she would be contributing a song to the upcoming Bond movie.
But it turns out that all Beyoncé was doing was drinking a martini and nothing else. Because it's been revealed that teen Pop star Billie Eilish will be singing the theme song for the upcoming Bond flick No time to die. Making her the youngest artist to ever sing a Bond theme song.
Billie is an interesting choice, because I would never have put her in the running to take on a Bond theme. But then again, with the exceptions of Adele and Sam Smith, the prior choices all the way back to Die another die have been surprises and not who you would expect to be given the honour. And now I think about it, Billie's insane popularity aside, I can hear it. She has a voice that'd work, and her brother and primary collaborator Finneas certainly has the range as a producer.
Whilst some artists have opted to deliver something classic, there doesn't seem to be a template to which a Bond song has to adhere to, something that Madonna controversially made us realise to a complete extreme with "Die another day". So Billie's "No time to die" could be anything. But given her own style of music, I can actually imagine it adhering to the classic takes on a Bond theme. Something orchestral, swelling and moody like "Lovely". Or she and Finneas might say 'Fuck it' and give us some "Ocean eyes" type shit.
I usually do not give a damn about Bond theme songs, but I'm really looking forward to hearing what Billie delivers. I honestly wasn't caring about this new Bond film full stop until I saw Knives Out last week and had my wig snatched by Daniel Craig. And now I'm like 'Lemme go back and watch these Bond movies'. Even though James Bond ain't a damn fucking thing like Benoit Blanc. But, anyway.
I wonder what a Beyoncé Bond theme song would sound like...
