Lady Gaga is about that Power Ranger life in "Stupid Love"

Lady Gaga is about that Power Ranger life in "Stupid Love" | Random J Pop

Lady Gaga is back with a new song. The Monsters are an emotional mess. Ally Brooke of Fifth Harmony fame who released her song on the same day is crying in a toilet cubicle.

I don't follow Lady Gaga heavily, so I have no idea what word on the Tweet street was concerning expectations for this song sound-wise. But I honestly don't think her fan base cared that much. As long as they got something new and got confirmation 2020 would see the release of a new album.

I certainly had no real expectations of what to expect from a Lady Gaga single in 2020, because there's always been consistency in what she does. No song she's released has really shocked me or come out of left field, which is part of her appeal. So "Stupid Love" sounds instantly familiar. It's basically "Born This Way".

Lady Gaga is all about her brand, and it took a bit of a turn with Joanne. But her stint in A Star Is Born kinda made it make sense. And with Lady Gaga being so deliberate and meticulous in what she does, I do wonder if she'd made a decision to really strip her image back prior to A Star Is Born to get everybody used to seeing her more pared down. And also as a test to see if she could do this music thing without having Wagyu beef hanging from her titties and wearing rubix's cube.

Hindsight can be a wonderful thing. But it can also make you see reasoning in everything in which there is no reason. It's a bitch like that.

"Stupid Love" is really the only way Lady Gaga could 'come back'. Her fans will defend that whole Joanne phase to their graves. But they know they were starved for Gaga with an overly beat face, a crazy wig and some senior year theatre club production outfit, because they love to fucking see it. They were done with Lady Gaga in a Harley Davidson T-shirt and denim cutoffs. They were over the cowboys hats. Absolutely done.

"Stupid Love" is just fun. I don't think the song nor the Power Rangers looking-ass video are particularly memorable. "Stupid Love" probably won't go down as a tent-pole in Gaga's discography as "Poker Face", "Bad Romance" and "Express Yourself" "Born This Way" did. But it's a fun song. And it's nice to see that Lady Gaga has settled into finding a balance between hi-concept Gaga, lo-fi Gaga and just Stefani. Over the past couple of years we've seen the act of eccentricities slowly start to peel away. Lady Gaga likes to have a laugh, poke fun and has fully embraced not being this perfectly poised pop star as she once was. It's really nice to see and to get a sense that Lady Gaga has been on a journey to somewhat finding herself, all the while advocating for her fans to be who they are. I imagine it's liberating for her to feel that she's at a point in her career where she can let some of that shit go. This is the energy that comes through in the song and video and is what I like most about it.

And to finish on a random fact about the video, it was shot entirely on an iPhone 11. I small Apple money. So expect to see new images of iPhones with Apple Music playing Lady Gaga, and Shot on an iPhone posters with stills from the "Stupid Love" video on them to start popping up everywhere.
