Ayumi Hamasaki has released a new song, "Ohia no Ki", which marks her first release of 2020 and the first piece of new music since the covert birth of her child.

I was going to write a whole ass review of this, but then I thought What is the point? I only have one thing to really say about the song, and that's that it's nice, but it's the same old shit and it's boring.

"Ohia no Ki" is not a bad song. But it's not great and it's not memorable. This is how it's been with Ayu's music since A One. A One was a nice album, but it was boring. The only standout song on it was her cover of Hikaru Utada's "Movin' On Without You" which didn't fit in with anything else on the album what-so-ever. M(a)de in Japan was a nice album, but it was boring. Trouble was a nice EP, but it was boring. I don't know what the hell happened during Colours, but it's like ever since then, her music has just become safe and stagnant.

Ayu's music just isn't interesting any more. I've never been an Ayu fan, but I can at least remember her older material and music videos. I can't say the same for anything she's released in the past 10 years, BECAUSE EVERYTHING LOOKS AND SOUNDS THE SAME.

"Ohia no Ki" continues what has become a trend for Ayu and many J-artists in fact of not releasing physically. The physical version of "Ohia no Ki" will only be available with the limited edition version of her millionth live home release Ayumi Hamasaki Countdown Live 2019 - 2020: Promised Land A, which releases on August 26.

I'm not interested in this new song at all, but I am however interested in this J-Drama M Aisubeki Hito ga Ite, which is based on Ayu's rise to stardom. Because the drama is based on a book comprised of interviews with Ayu herself and is produced by Avex, it'll probably omit a lot of the mess. But I'mma check it out anyway.
