Do y'all remember when Luna from f(x) went solo for a minute and dropped the gay anthem that is "Free Somebody"?
Well, JoJo co-wrote it. Yep. THAT JoJo. "Leave (Get Out)" JoJo co-wrote the damn thing.
SM entertainment have been pulling songs from Western pools for their acts for a while now. And it got to a point where they just said 'Fuck it' and started to just work with US songwriters and producers to craft songs specifically for their acts. This was probably in part due to many instances of songs that went to SM artists having had a whole life and being public before SM released them; such as BoA's "Did Ya" having once been Haley Bennett's "Buddha's Delight" and f(x)'s "No More" having been Ariana Grande's "Boyfriend Material". With this in mind, it's very likely that "Free Somebody" was actually a song that JoJo had recorded for herself before her label situation went wonky and the song was up for grabs. Or if she recorded it, decided it wasn't the one and just decided to let it go.
Luna did her thing with this "Free Somebody". She owns it. It's my jam. It was a pleasant surprise that nobody saw coming. She deserves. But the prospect of there possibly being a version of the song sung by JoJo sure is something.
And to close this post on Luna, SM entertainment did her dirty and played themselves. They could had a solo star with Luna beyond f(x). Free Somebody was a nice EP and she shoulda been had other EP's and a full length album out already.
