Album Cut: BoA featuring Sean Garrett - Crazy About | And anotha one

A cassette tape of the deluxe edition of BoA’s self-titled US debut album lying on a surface, with the words ‘ALBUM CUTS’ superimposed onto the image on the top right-hand side.

I wasn't the biggest fan of BoA's English language album. I felt it was too much of a trend chaser, and that it didn't chase the trends as well as SM needed them to in order for the US market to take BoA seriously. But we know that garbage music has launched careers, sustained careers and broken markets. The overarcing issue witht he album is that it was premature. It was simply the wrong time.

SM entertainment tried to go for a second wind with a repackaged of the album, like it woul dmake any difference. The sad thing was that the repackaged version of BoA's album featured two new songs which both would have made decent singles, but it was too little too late. One of such songs was "Crazy About", which featured Sean Garrett of Beyoncé ("Get Me Bodied", "Upgrade U", "Diva", "Video Phone") fame, who had written and featured on the singles "I Did It For Love" and "Energetic".

"Crazy About" didn't feel like it was trying to chase a trend and was also a song which gave BoA a personality in ways that "I Did It For Love" and "Energetic" didn't. And whilst the song was still smothered in autotune (another issue with the album), the slower pacing of the verses made it far easier to hear what BoA was singing because she could focus more on her diction as opposed to just trying to rapid fire the lyrics, as was the case with many of the other songs. It's a shame that this wasn't made a single and that we didn't get a video. We could've gotten a great routine to this. But, it just wasn't the right time.
