K-Pop seven piece girl group Dreamcatcher released their new song "Boca", along with their 5th EP Dystopia: Lose Myself. (Chile, K-Pop loves itself an EP).
I was ready to write "Boca" off. 'Here we go. K-Pop doing Reggaeton'. But then the chorus hit. It doesn't fit the song AT ALL. There's a build, but no damn transition what-so-ever. But it's part of why it works.
It really is a shame that K-Pop is set-up in such a way where groups from YG Entertainment, SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment will always take precedence other any other group, no matter what. Because there are lots of other girl groups not from the big three who are doing their thing and dare I say it, doing it better. And none of the big three would ever dare have a group drop a lead song like this, even though each of them could get away with it. Because standoms really don't give a fuck about the music. 2NE1 coulda done rock and rocked it, and Blackpink probably could if they weren't so scared of pulling away from Teddy Park's tried, tested and tired ass sound.
HENNYWAY.
