JYP Entertainment girl ground Itzy have made their comeback with their new song, music video and EP "Not Shy". I was about to say that Itzy only formed last year, but a year ago in K-Pop years is like referring to the stone age.
Every K-Pop entertainment house has that one girl group who is edgy and *cough* 'Urban', and that's what Itzy seems to be for JYP in comparison to the likes of Twice and their previous groups Miss A and Wonder Girls. These girls will undoubtedly be compared to Blackpink, but who in K-Pop isn't being compared except BoA?
"Not Shy" sounds too flat. The chorus needed a bassline which went places and something musically to lift it from the rest of the song. This was a common feeling I had when listening to their EP. Nothing stuck with me because the songs always sounded like they were coasting. Even with a song like "Don't Give A What" which features several switch-ups, the song still manages to feel like it's not going anywhere.
Given JYP's track record with girl groups, Itzy probably won't even get the chance to reach their full potential, or they'll reach it and then just be given up on. But lets see where they go from here.
