Mexican-American pop star released his debut album Apolonio in 2020, but has decided to grace the second year of the apocalypse with a brand new single, "Go Away".
"Go Away" is co-produced by funk duo Chromeo, who are best known for their song "Jealous (I Ain't With It)". Chromeo often float into my consciousness due to having a member who has the look and the legs of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop.
If ya'll lazy bitches that want a synopsis and a comparison before you go into this song, then think SZA's "Prom" with a random ass aesthetic to match, that is right up SZA's street. She really be living grass, plants and shit lately.
Many have questioned Omar's sexuality based on the lyrics of some of his songs ("Hey Boy") and his visuals, but he's made a thing of not disclosing it. The video for "Go Away" is bound to have this question surface again, given that his love interest appears to be guy, and more tellingly, all of the plants. Because if there's one thing gays be loving these days, it's plants. I'm sure Omar won't respond to it. And why should he?
My Summer playlists always have hella pop indie moments, and "Go Away" will do nicely for this year. I look forward to hearing more from Omar. If he keeps to the release pattern he's been on for the past 3 years, we'll probabaly get a new album or an EP by the end of 2021.
