OTAQUEST held its second show this year on July 3rd in Los Angeles, where Capsule played for the first time; although Yasutaka Nakata had DJ'd at OTAQUEST live last year as a solo act.
Yasutaka Nakata and Toshiko Koshijima both sat down with OTAQUEST to talk about how they feel about performing their first North American show as Capsule and some other stuff. This is Yasutaka Nakata we're dealing with. So he didn't give much away. I honestly don't know why he even bothers giving interviews. But he did reveal that he is currently at work on the follow up to 2015's Wave runner.
For the next Capsule album, it's going to be a little different from what I do as a solo producer. Compared to Wave runner which released four years ago, it might be completely different.
Yep. That's all he gave us on it. Toshiko probably had no clue.
Given Yasutaka's output as of late, I don't know whether a new Capsule album is something to look forward to or something to fear. I guess if nothing else, I should be happy for Toshiko. She'll have a new gig to look forward to. Unless Nakata pulls a CAPS LOCK and says 'Fuck dem vocals'.
I'll be checking out this new Capsule album regardless, whenever it drops. But I will have low expectations for it, based on Nakata's Digital native album and how he threw in the towel with Perfume's Future pop. Toshiko must be so damn sick and tired and reminisce about the old days when Capsule's sound was fresh and actually interesting.
Capsule's last 2 albums CAPS LOCK and Wave runner weren't completely terrible, and showed a level of consistency that Nakata wasn't able to give Perfume's LEVEL3 and Cosmic explorer albums; both of which were produced and released around the same time.
I honestly wouldn't mind a Capsule Best album at this point.
