I've been watching HBO's Euphoria. But this post isn't to talk about that show. Even though I know this post will end up with me talking all about that show.
The season finale aired last week on Sunday, August 4rd, and basically ended with a music video to an original song by Labrinth and Zendaya; the former of whom is also responsible shows' score.
I warn you though. If you have never watched Euphoria and don't want any part of it spoiled, then do not watch this video. But with that said, out of context, this video doesn't spoil anything about the show at all and could just as easily be a promotional video for it.
Zendaya did the music thing once a while back and has shown zero interest in returning to it, save for a one off stint in that circus film with Wolverine. And even in light of this, I can't see her returning to it. It genuinely seems like something that they did because they just could. They figured that Zendaya is a star who once had a pop career and they have somebody scoring the show who also makes pop records. So, why not?
Labrinth has been riding the biggest of waves over the past couple of years. Having co-written and co-produced songs for Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, being part of the three piece LSD alongside Diplo and Sia, booking this scoring gig on a big ol' HBO show and also co-writing and co-producing an Beyoncé's "Spirit for the official Lion King soundtrack. Not bad at all for a guy from Hackney.
"All for us" is available on all streaming platforms. However, the version that HBO have released features more lead vocals from Labrinth. Hopefully they'll release the version from the episode at some point, because the Zendaya version is far better. Those vocals have come a long way since "Replay". But those of you who feel the opposite and would prefer the song without Zendaya, such a version exists too and you can check the official audio over at Labrinth's YouTube channel.
Now. Let's talk a little about the show itself. All I will say is that I find it wild that folk see Euphoria as wildly provocative, when we had Skins pretty much do everything Euphoria did, minus the dicks, 12 years ago. And then some. Also. This shit is on HBO. Their shows always do the most. Folk are really shocked and on edge after shit like The Sopranos and Game of Thrones!?
Okay then.
Euphoria was enjoyable though. Even if it was slow to get started and many of the shots 'n' scenes were superfluous budget flexes, as this 'music video' shows.
That's all I'mma say on the show for now. But if y'all wanna get right into it, go for it in the comments. Just be cautious of spoilers for those yet to watch it.
