Emiko Suzuki has a "Soul full of music", but gurl. Where's the soul? | Random J Pop

Emiko's debut single is a double A-side release which features "Fly away" and "Soul full of music". Coupling these 2 songs together is a great move to show that Emiko is not just a ballad / mid-tempo chick. But, I-

"Soul full of music" is a cute song, but her vocals don't sell it. Emiko's voice is too light and too thin for this type of song. Jazz is rich. It needs texture and tone, things that Emiko doesn't really have. As was the case with "Fly my way", if Emiko's vocals were better arranged and produced, the song would have fared better. "Soul full of music" needed harmonies, ad-libs and some ♪ Shoo-wop! Shoo-wop! ♪ 's in the back to help build the song out.

Musically the song is dense. But vocally, it feels empty. The song is like chicken with no seasoning.

And it's not even about belting or giving runs and acrobatics (although great runs would help). Because an artist like Namie Amuro could sing this song and she'd sound good on it, because she has texture and tone, and her vocals are always well arranged and layered to give density.

Emiko has a decent voice, but it's inconsistent. Sometimes she gives you a little something, and other times she gives you any-chick - all within the space of an 8-count. She needs a good vocal coach to help her best utilise her voice so she can really ground herself in her songs. But it's not just Emiko's singing style that's the issue, it's the songs she's being given. Avex are giving Emiko songs where the music is too rich for her vocals and current singing style, and the end result is basic karaoke sounding-ass-songs.

The music video looks cool though and Emiko looks great. The suit look is a far more memorable and striking look than the generic ass dainty look that Avex seem to have her doing the rounds in.
