Louis York throw us back to 80s R&B with "Don't you forget" | Random J Pop

If any of y'all are looking for new male artists 'n' groups to serve you R&B, then here's one. Louis York. An R&B duo made up of songwriter Claude Kelly and producer Chuck Harmony. The group name being an a portmanteau of their home towns: Chuck is from East St. Louis and Claude is from New York. Claude provides the vocals, whilst Chuck provides the sounds.

For those who haven't heard of Louis York, you have heard songs that both of these guys have written or produced. Trust me on that. To name one well known song from each; Claude Kelly wrote Britney Spears' "Circus" and Chuck Harmony produced Rihanna's "Russian roulette".

Louis York have been performing and soft releasing music for a while now. They even have 3 EP's under their belts and a slew of live shows. But "Don't you forget" is officially their first major single from their upcoming debut album American griots, which is due on October 18.

Claude and Chuck's discography as songwriters and producers spans a range of genre's and styles, and is not even remotely indicative of their sound as a duo. So go into "Don't you forget" with an open mind. Not that the song is wildly different or anything. In fact, it may sound familiar as fuck to some. I know it did to me.

Every now and then a song comes along that you didn't realise you needed until it karate chops you in the neck. That's this song for me. It's a straight-up black barbecue jam.

It's taken me a while to get into this song and appreciate it for what it is, because I was stuck on what song it sounded like. I hear the influences immediately. It's like a sex party with Earth Wind and Fire, Hall & Oates and The System, with Stevie Wonder stumbling about the place mid-way through the night. But there is definitely an existing song that has the same melody that's at the start of this song, because I've heard that shit before. Maybe a theme song from an 80s TV show. Maybe even an Earth, Wind & Fire song. It was bugging me so much that even left a message on Louis York's Insta page, venting at not being able to identify the melody or what I thought was a sample, and they replied said the music 100% original. But I still can't shake that I've heard the shit somewhere before. It got me so bad, that I told myself I wouldn't post this until I identified it. Because I'm apparently that guy. If any of you can put me out of my misery and identify what song I'm referring to, please do.

Anyway. "Don't you forget" is a great song. It's nice to have some feel good R&B doing the rounds. This deserves to blow up radio and be a huge hit. If Bruno Mars had put this outta, it woulda been already.
