Perfume put out a Best album the other day and already they've got a new on the way. I really acted surprised for a minute, like this ain't how it always goes in the J-music game; new single announcement not even 2 months after an album drop.
The song is called "Saisei" and it will be the theme song for the detective mystery film Shijinsou no satsujin, which looks like a Japanese version of Rian Johnson's Knives out.
I was expecting this to sound like a cross between "Mirai no museum" and Pamyu Pamyu's "Crazy party night ~Pumpkin no gyakushuu~" with a future bass hook. This is only 30 seconds of the song, so it still might. But even with this small snippet of the song, it's sounding like yet another case of Yasutaka Nakata giving Perfume a Kyary-sounding-ass song.
Side note: The song doesn't match the tone or any of what's shown in the trailer. What-so-ever.
The promotional shot featuring Perfume and the cast of Shijinsou no satsujin, has the girls wearing Chloé. Which wouldn't have meant anything if Perfume's team hadn't tagged the brand in their Instagram post. So maybe we'll get some actual fashion being served in the music video.
Speaking of the music video, I hope it's something cool, fun and quirky. The music videos for Future pop were some of the least interesting and unmemorable videos Perfume have ever released. Perfume have too good a visual and creative team to be giving us mediocre music videos. So if y'all could put all of your P³ discs in a circle and pray we get something good, that'd be great.
