Allie X is back and hangin' with the "Regulars" | Random J Pop

After airing out her Halloween drawers with "Fresh laundry" and then having her memory jogged by some dick in grey sweatpants in "Rings a bell", Allie X is back with "Regulars". If you liked the two songs which preceded this, then you'll like this. Say what you will about Allie X, but a bitch is consistent.

Allie X seems to have settled into this almost Indie leaning Pop sound as opposed to the 80s throwback Pop sound she was working on her last 3 albums. With each song she seems to lean further and further into it. "Fresh laundry" at least featured some trace of CollXion and Super Sunset. But "Rings a bell" and "Regulars" said 'No bitch'. Featuring more in the way of live instrumentation, electric bass and funk.

The sound shift certainly fits her current image better. It's an interesting turn, as we often see it happen in reverse. Her Pop-as-fuck sound was very comparable to the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen, Taylor Swift and maybe even a bit of Charli XCX. So maybe she didn't fancy being compared to them and getting lost in the mix. Either way, the music is still good, and "Regulars" is my fave of the post Super Sunset music drops we've gotten over the past couple of months.

An LP or an EP on the way? High chance.
