Music video: Billie Eilish lives for tomorrow in "My Future" | Random J Pop

Billie Eilish is keeping her fans fed, Finneas paid, and her account with incoming funds, with the release of a new song, "My Future".

With us still being in a pandemic (contrary to the way many people be out here acting) the music video is an animated affair. But given Billie's collaboration with Takashi Murakami, who directed her music video for "You Should See Me In a Crown", this feels like the kind of video "My Future" would have gotten regardless of whether Miss Corona was on her Contamination world tour or not.

I really am here for these young artists putting out these types of songs about self love, self care and wanting to live. Ariana's "Thank U, Next" was one such song beneath the surface, but that sentiment became second-fold to the mentions of her exes, and where the focus sat for many who heard the song.

These types of songs are a window into the expectations that get heaped onto young stars once they become successful and how they become a commodity. They're so busy trying to be something for a bunch of people, that they forget to be themselves for themselves.

"My Future" is also a moment of personal development for Billie, having disclosed her battle with depression, contemplating suicide. For her to write a song about genuinely looking forward to her future from something like "Bury a Friend" is a big-ass deal. So, congrats and well done to her for reaching that point. It has far more weight now, of all times, with us being in the mess that we're in, and the future being something that many can't get their head around because they can't imagine what it's gonna look like given current events.

The song itself was a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting it to switch and get so funky. It's nice to hear the range that Billie and Finneas have given us between these past three single releases. "No Time To Die", "Everything I Wanted" and "My Future" have all tapped into something different, but still feel within Billie's style. And there's even a theme which goes across them and connects them, which is the desire to keep living.
