Beni readies her English language debut with "Made In Love" | Random J Pop

Beni released an EP two weeks ago and a bitch already has a new one due to drop next week and a new music video. AND she announced that she's pregnant, that she's married and that her next EP will be an English language release under her full legal name Beni Daniels in a bid to break the US market.

Well, okay then.

The lead song from her English language EP is "Made In Love", which is also the name of the EP.

This is a really nice song and more of what I wish Beni would do with her Japanese language music. But it still feels lacking compared to what Beni had given us during her golden era of Bitter & Sweet, Lovebox and Jewel. Her vocals don't sound as smooth and the vocal production doesn't feel as layered. But the song is still nice and it has a cute video, which gives me Ponyo vibes.

Beni choosing to release English language music under Beni Daniels is silly though. This differentiation thing some Japanese artists do in their bid to break the US market is weird and makes no sense. Especially at a time of streaming and the Internet, where you would ideally want somebody to search for you and see all of you. I don't see the benefit in separating off a whole body of your work. It's like the Utada situation all over again, which was always nonsensical. Even now on some streaming platforms, Hikaru Utada and Utada are listed as two separate artists. With Beni it's probably going to be the same thing. She's even set up a whole separate YouTube channel, when she could just release shit under her existing one which already has over 90,000 subscribers. Japan is so weird when it comes to digital consolidation. They always separate out EVERYTHING.

Beni's EP Made In Love releases on September 30th and features a cover of Janet Jackson's "That's The Way Love Goes", which is available on streaming now, and sounds awful.
