Rina Sawayama gives the world just a lil' bit in her first televised performance of "XS" | Random J Pop

Rina Sawayama performed her capitalist bop "XS" for the Jimmy Fallon show, marking her first televised performance in the US. And can you believe that this is Rina's her first performance in support of Sawayama since the album dropped back in April!? Not even a little green screen performance at home bitch. NOTHING. And with the UK in its second lockdown at time of writing, we probably won't get a damn thing more from Rina until 2021.

As for that Dynasty tour? Gurl. That's getting pushed back to 2022.

This was a great performance. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the camera work. It was giving me K-Pop cameraman vibes. But the production, the looks, the choreo, the vocals, were all on point. The damn thing looked like a music video. I'mma need to see Rina perform "Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys)" for television and give it a similar treatment to make up for that horrid music video, which I will forever be pressed about.

Sawayama has many gems, but Rina picked the best song to perform. "XS" is probably one of the most radio friendly songs on the album, and seems to be the one song that most who listen to Sawayama for the first time unanimously like. It's also a great song which shows the intersection of styles on the album and Rina's quirky pen game. I was expecting a switch into "STFU", but maybe Rina's saving the reveal of that transition for the Dynasty 2025 tour.
