Hikaru Utada to release a new single "One Last Kiss" for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0

Hikaru Utada to release a new single "One Last Kiss" for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 | Random J Pop

Being a Hikaru Utada fan means continuously clinging to hope that she will release something.

Anything.

The only partial certainty was Hikaru Utada being tied to the Kingdom Hearts and Evangelion franchises, providing fans with points at which to expect music. But Kingdom Hearts III took so damn long to release that many (not me) lost hope that Hikaru would even contribute another song to a new Kingdom Hearts game. And the final Rebuild of Evangelion film just fell off the radar (the last film Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo released back in 2012) that fans wondered if we'd get something new for the final film. I will admit, that I was sceptical and figured that we'd end up with a remix to a previously released song. But Hikaru Utada said 'No bitch'. And on the same day that some 90 year old woman in the UK was the first to get a COVID vaccine, Hikaru dropped news that her own would be coming.

Pfizer. She don't know her.

"One Last Kiss" will be the theme song for the upcoming and final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, which releases on January 23, 2021. The film was due to release in July, 2020, but was pushed back because of Miss Corona's blockbuster release.

"One Last Kiss" will release on all streaming platforms on January 24, 2021, then physically on January 27, 2021 as an 8 track EP which features all of the Evangelion themes that Hikaru Utada has released to date, with 2 tracks which are yet to be revealed.

  1. One Last Kiss
  2. Track 2
  3. Beautiful World [2021 Remastered Version]
  4. Beautiful World (PLANiTb Acoustica Mix) [2021 Remastered Version]
  5. Sakura Nagashi [2021 Remastered Version]
  6. Fly Me to the Moon (In Other Words) [2021 Remastered Version]
  7. One Last Kiss (Instrumental)
  8. Track 8

The track order is leading me to believe that we may get a Kingdom Hearts III situation, and end up with two new songs; with Track 2 being the second new song and Track 8 being the instrumental.

If we do happen to get a music video for "One Last Kiss", it's unlikely it'll feature Hikaru Utada herself - but who the fuck knows. My 2020 Bingo card has been real off with just about everything so far.

One thing I do know, is that Hikaru ain't tweeting a damn thing about this song until the week it drops. As of now she ain't said shit. January 20th gon' hit and then she's gonna be like...

Y'all know the fun part about being a Hikaru Utada fun, aside from spinning a wheel to guess if she'll release something? Not knowing what the fuck the song is gonna sound like when it drops, because a bitch be hopscotching between styles each song.
