Daichi Miura is "Backwards" and I'm tired

It's been 4 years since Daichi released a studio album (3 years if you include his concept album Kyuutai), but he's stayed releasing singles, and his latest in "Backwards".

I know Avex are gonna have Daichi drop an album this year, because they need SOMEBODY to release a new studio album this year. Especially after Kumi decided to drop her shit at the tail end of 2020, Ayu said 'Y'all can have a Best release' and FAKY eternally destined to release nothing but singles.

If any of you, like me, listened to this song and thought 'This is giving me Namie Amuro vibes', it's because "Backwards" was written and produced by Nao'ymt, who wrote and produced for Namie across Queen of Hip-Pop, Play, Past < Future, Uncontrolled and Feel. I always get a Namie feel from Daichi because of how he always looks like he can't be bothered with anything, the occasional struggle vocals and the genres he crosses. There must be something in the water in Okinawa, because it's the same shit with Meisa Kuroki.

"Backwards" isn't a bad song and neither is its video. But we've heard and seen Daichi do this so many times before and it's getting tired now. He is so much better than what his releases over the past 4 years have been. There isn't a great deal of solo artists in J-Pop who can dance as good as he can and have his taste level, so there floor is clear for him to really push through with more ear and eye catching material than this. I know we're in a pandemic, but DAMN.

"Backwards" is available to stream now, but its physical release on April 21, 2021 will be a Maxi single, featuring an additional 3 songs: "About You", "Spacewalk" and "Didn't Know".

"Backwards" isn't bad by any means. But it's good to know the single release will come with other songs that will hopefully win me over, because Daichi knows he has it in him to drop fire. He's done it many times before.
