Flashback Friday: Lion Babe - Where Do We Go | The Disco bop that deserved

Flashback Friday: Lion Babe - Where Do We Go | Random J Pop

Lion Babe have had a really good couple of years. Despite releasing their debut album in 2016 after what felt like a long gestation period of just trying to get it off the ground, they really hit their stride from the release of their second studio album Cosmic Wind in 2018. Since then there's been a consistent flow of music releases, music videos and activity, and the group was one of many who managed to still navigate releasing music and serving their fans through this pandemic.

But despite Lion Babe having 2 albums under their belt, and being out here touring, making music, selling out merch and enjoying a good career, they're still somewhat underground. Front woman Jillian Hervey doesn't shout from the rooftops that she's Wilhelmina Slater's daughter, even though it could probably help her somewhat. Lion Babe have yet to really have their breakthrough moment into the mainstream - but that's not to say they haven't released songs that could have done just that, because they have. And one of those songs was "Where Do We Go".

Dance music. Disco fever. Fashion. Big hair. Kylo Ren in a white lace top. An aesthetic. Lion Babe gave it all to us, and were paid dust.

Sometimes a great song can release at the wrong time and not catch the traction it deserves. *Gestures* If Lion Babe were to have released "Where Do We Go" in 2020, things may have fared differently than its barely noticeable release in 2015. But we're at a time in music where it's easier to discover old gems, and entirely plausible for them to become the hits they were once denied - so there's still hope that this song will reach the audience that it deserves.

Obviously this song is part of my Black 'n' Queer playlist

And if anybody from World of Wonder is stalking this blog, put Lion Babe's "Where Do We Go" as a damn lip sync song in the next season of RuPaul's Drag Race.
