Kumi Koda gives a cute performance of "Megumi no Hito" to remind y'all that her cover albums is where it's at
Kumi Koda appeared on The Music Day as part of the long-ass roster. But instead of performing something relatively recent or new, Kumi Koda threw it WAY back with a performance of her cover of Rats & Star's "Megumi no Hito" and her 2005 hit song "Butterfly".This wasn't the most extra of performances, but I feel (and have done for a while) these low key performances are where Kumi truly shines. She looked great. She sounded great. No gimmicks. Nothing distracting from her talent as a singer and performer, which can get easily lost in the theatrics of her tours. It was also cute that she included videos of her fans. Say what you will about this trick, but she loves her fans. Sometimes to a fault. Which is why I was like 'Bitch, WHAT!?' when she chose to hold her 2020 tour in the thick of the pandemic, instead of cancelling and / or postponing it, as many other acts did.
Kumi knows how to put on a good show. But because everything she does on her tours is so overblown and more-often-than-not copies of what other artists have done, she doesn't always shine as brightly as she could and should. And then you add some of the awful music to the mix, and it's just a mess.
Lots of fans live for Kumi being extra. But her simple performances are always the ones that do it for me.
Performing "Megumi no Hito" was a smart move. Get those Eternity ~Love & Songs~ sales bitch. Let the people know that THAT right there is the album people need to be looking to. It's a shame it wasn't better promoted, and that the music video for "Megumi no Hito" was released as part of the promo for a whole other album.
