Random J Playlist: Summer Wave | "Polygon Wave" adjacent dance songs | Random J Pop

So, randomly, somebody asked me on Tumblr 'Will there be a Polygon Wave-inspired playlist from you?'. And I thought to myself 'Now, THAT wouldn't be a bad idea for a playlist'. Although given that "Polygon Wave" sounds like it's strongly influenced by a bunch of other songs and artists, I think the recontextualization would be a playlist of songs which inspired "Polygon Wave". The outcome would be the same, but context and framing matters y'all.

I liked the idea, so of course I made a damn playlist. And I call it Summer Wave. A selection of songs in a style that I feel either directly, indirectly or coincidentally influenced the sound of "Polygon Wave". Because despite "Polygon Wave" just being a funkier version of "Polyrhythm", the funky elements of the song is where the influence lies. And as a result of that I hear some French House and Disco, which immediately takes my mind to songs like Daft Punk's "One More Time" and Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You", which I'd mentioned in my initial thoughts of "Polygon Wave".

The resulting playlist is one that's perfect for Summer. Whether you choose to spend it outside freshly vaccinated or still isolated because you don't wanna be a part of the Delta variant wave or whatever new remix Coronavirus drops, because at this point COVID be dropping more versions of itself than "Old Town Road".

The person who initially asked me the question on Tumblr asked it anonymously, so I can't give them a personal shout out. But if you happen to come across this; the playlist is done and good shout on the idea.

This playlist is just based on MY personal thoughts on songs that I feel could be "Polygon Wave" adjacent and share the same vibe of the song. It's not me conclusively making a statement and it's of course not a list of songs that Nakata himself has name dropped. But it does include some songs from artists that have come up in conversations over the years in regards to Nakata's productions and influences, such as Daft Punk and Kylie Minogue.
