Today's episode of '?J posting on a group out of the blue, even though he actually listens to them, but for whatever reason posts nothing on them' features Porno Graffiti, who made an appearance on The First Take to perform their 2000 hit single "Saudade". Crystal Kay fans may not know of Porno Graffitti, but they will recognise the song title, as Crystal delivered an amazing cover of it on her cover album, I Sing. Which was one of my favourites from the album.
The fact that Crystal Kay has not been a guest on The First Take yet is foul.
HENNYWAY.
Let's get into this performance.Akihito Okano has still got those vocals. The men of J-Rock be taking better care of their voices than a lot of the more popular women of J-Pop. Quite a few of the guys who have been around for a good decade or two still sound great. Meanwhile some of the ladies (of Avex), be croaking on the mic.
I'mma curveball y'alls asses again and now start talking about Perfume.
I've been banging on quite a bit about Perfume working with other producers and songwriters; most of my picks being from the worlds of pop and dance. But I'd actually really like to hear something rock tinged and funky from Perfume; and for Porno Graffiti to write a song for them. Not only because I like their style and feel it'd actually work really well for Perfume, but both groups are from Hiroshima and are also managed by the same agency, Amuse Inc. Two groups with 2 completely different styles who have something in common. A recipe.
'So J, what Porno Graffitti album do you like?' nobody asked. Worldillia is the one I play the most, because of "Wakusei Kimi", which I adore.
