Run for cover. The Sugababes are going on tour. | Random J Pop

Well, damn. The Sugababes are going on tour this year.

The false starts with this group, with the the debut under Mutya Keisha Siobhan with “Flatline”, to a lil’ club tour, to them then legally reclaiming the name Sugababes, to their cover of the UK Garage hit “Flowers”, to the re-release of their debut album. It’s just been a series of false starts. But now, here we are. Getting a headlined tour. UK obviously.

The Sugababes headlined the queer UK festival Mighty Hoopla, which went down a treat with punters and fans alike. There is still a whole lot of love for the group. So I wouldn’t be surprised if dates started selling out pretty fast.

The tour is a short stint, starting in mid October and ending a week into November.

The Sugababes sure are doing a lot of gigging. So fans will undoubtedly be wanting to know what’s up with a new album. As they've BEEN asked since 2010.

There have been too many false starts for me to expect an album. I’m just seeing this tour as a cute reunion tour and nothing more. If we get an original studio album off the back of it. Great.

At the every least, I think the Sugababes could release an album of self covers. The majority of songs in the tour setlist is going to end up being songs which were recorded when Heidi replaced Siobhan in the line-up. And fans who aren’t precious over Heidi are going to want studio recorded versions of the 2.0 classics songs with Siobhan’s vocals. And I would definitely like to hear 3.0 songs with Mutya. Nostalgia sells. And I think it would be a cool way for the Sugababes and their team to test the waters of how well a Sugababes album would sell now. I say drop a self covers album at the end of the year with “Flatline” and “Today” on it. And then drop a new studio album in 2023.

HENNYWAY.

Fans will be able to push the button and buy themselves tickets at Live Nation on July 1st. I’m glad it’s Live Nation, because I actually want to see the Sugababes on this tour, and I would refuse to if the tickets were through Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster are on a lifetime ban ever since they fucked up my ticket for Hikaru Utada’s In the Flesh tour and made me miss it.

Also, “Flatline” is now back on streaming, after being removed on the down low, years ago - now under ‘Sugababes’. BRRRRRRRAP. It sounds a little different to me. Like the mix has changed. But maybe it’s because I’ve not listened to the song in a while, and the version I was listening to on my iPod was an Internet rip.
