Joyce Wrice goes Kill Bill on some hoes for “Iced Tea”

Joyce Wrice is shot in close-up, as she unsheathes a katana blade right in front of her face, which obscures it.

I see Kaytranada. I have to listen. It’s just how it is. And I’m sure I’m not the only one.

One of Kaytranada’s latest production credits is on Joyce Wrice’s “Iced Tea”. Joyce is a newcomer to the R&B game, who released her debut album in 2021, which featured an interlude produced by Kaytranada himself, which was also named after him. So a full length song had to be on the cards, and here we are.

I really do wish Kaytranada was producing more for the R&B and Black pop girls. I’m not sure whether it’s a personal thing in regards to Kaytranada being super selective with what he says ‘yes’ to, or that record labels and A&R’s aren’t reaching out or sending artists (and good money) his way - but it’s something that needs to change.

Folk like Kaytranada have always been the silent backbones of music, being a bridge between underground sounds in the clubs and the charts. And talent like Kaytranada always have incredible range, yet remain secular because the industry can’t categorise them. We know the music industry loves to pigeon hole. Especially when it comes to Black folk.

HENNYWAY.

“Iced Tea” is great. Be sure to check out the full version of the song, as the music video features an edited version of the song which drops the second verse.

Joyce released her debut album Overgrown in 2021, which produced almost exclusively by D’Mile, who helmed Victoria Monét’s grossly overlooked ‘album’, Jaguar. So if you liked Jaguar, check out Overgrown. You’ll dig it.

And on a side note, I’mma need Crystal Kay‘s people to slide into Kaytranada’s DMs.
