Mashup: Crystal Kay x Jordan Knight - One

A pile of colourful floppy discs. With one pink disc with a label on it — featuring the cover art of my Crystal Kay x Jordan Knight mashup. The cover art of which features a promotion shot of Crystal Kay for the release of her 2008 single “One”.

I decided to stop posting mashups here, because I get that’s not what the majority of you stop by here for. Also, it never made complete sense for me to post them here in the first place. But I’m posting this [turns and looks into the camera] one, because it’s Crystal Kay, I hadn’t posted about her in a while, and I also wanted to shamelessly plug a separate blog where I will be posting mashups from now on. But really, I just want you to get into this mashup. Especially in the wake of that not-so-great Best album.

“One” was a song I’d wanted to do a mashup with for a while, but I could never think of a song that’d work. And then it came to me. Jordan Knight’s “Give It to You”.

It’s almost serendipitous that the song I thought of to mash with Crystal Kay’s “One” was also a Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis production — Jam & Lewis being producers of the once online elusive “Kirakuni”. And my first 2 mashups with Crystal Kay songs being with Jam & Lewis productions. I have also made another Crystal Kay mashup which is again with a Jam & Lewis song. But you’re gonna have to subcruibe to me on YouTube and / or check out the mashups blog to know when that one drops. [Struggle winks]

🎛️ Where the mashups be: Random J Mashups

I absolutely adore “One”. So I was excited to see that it was re-recorded for All Time Best 25th Anniversary, because “One” isn’t a song that Crystal Kay has performed live a whole lotta times. So I was really looking forward to hearing her sing it with the far more developed voice she has now compared to when she first recorded the song 17 years ago. So imagine my surprise when I listened to it and Crystal gave me…what she gave me 17 years ago.

Nobody figured that perhaps the fans would want a new version of this song? That we’d wanna hear Crystal give us new runs, now ad-libs, new harmonies? Maybe a new beat?

Girl. Fire the whole management and marketing team.
