Y’all. Kashiyuka of Perfume has cut her hair.

I can’t believe I am writing a post about somebody cutting their hair. But here I am, writing a post about somebody cutting their hair.

Today, Kashiyuka of Perfume took to Instagram to post ‘✂︎ ✂︎ ✂︎ New me’ accompanied by photos of herself sporting a new haircut.

Kashiyuka has gone most of her life and her career with long hair — which was a defining part of her look as part of Perfume for more than 20 years. So I can only imagine how liberating it felt for her to be able to cut it, as she begins this new chapter of her life to live and discover who she is separate from ‘Kashiyuka’ and Perfume. For anybody, sporting a drastically different hairstyle when you’ve had the same style for so long is a big deal.

In 2020 held P.O.P FES, which was a roster of activity to provide their fans with ‘content’ during a period where they couldn’t hold shows or do televised appearances, because of the COVID Explorer tour. And as part of it Perfume did a lil slumber party segment where they sat and talked about their own personal style — which covered beauty products, clothing and hair. And Kashiyuka had expressed wanting to know what it felt like to have shorter hair, because hers takes so long to dry. And when the discussion came up about sporting different hair colours, Kashiyuka seemed pretty open to it. Then for Plasma, Kashiyuka got the hime cut. And during her stint on News Zero in December 2024, Kashiyuka had posted about hair donation. So it’s not all that surprising that one of the first thing Kashiyuka did once Perfume went on hiatus, was book an appointment to get her hair cut.

She looks great.

I think it’s cool that a-chan and Kashiyuka have documented and shared personal moments with fans which actually have nothing to do with Perfume. They have no reason nor obligation to. But as a fan, it is nice to see them already choosing to live their lives for themselves and relish in the freedom of making choices without concern for how it will affect Perfume. Don’t bother wondering what Nocchi’s choice will be, because she won’t post a damn thing about it. Although a random post of her in box braids would shake things up.
