Beyoncé sells Home Depot wooden boxes with a Shein bag strap for $948.01…and they’ve sold out

On 4th September 2026, Beyoncé’s birthday (her B’Day if you will) she released commemorative merch to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her album B’Day, the special edition of which was released the very same day. And amongst it was a $948.01 (her birthday…geddit?) collector’s vinyl box, in the style of a beekeeper’s box.

For $948, this box should be hinoki wood, be lined with cashmere and the strap should Hermès croc. And it should come with the mini Cé Noir and Cé Lumiere set, some Cécred, a bottle of the horse whiské and a B’Day vinyl.

The online ‘discourse’ around the B’Day anniversary merch and the pricing of this box was interesting to say the least. Lots of stans were calling the fans who complained ‘broke’, which is dumb behaviour. I think that fans complaining that the box is expensive is very reasonable, because the box is not in any way special. It’s a scam. And Beyoncé knows it’s a scam. And it was a successful scam, because the box has sold out. So, congrats to her, I guess.

I think there needs to be continuated conversations and pressure put on BIG artists for the way they extort fans. And yes, I am calling it extortion. Because whilst these artists are not forcing their fans to buy their overpriced merch, they know full well the power they have over their fanbases. And this is exactly why they can sell poorly made hairbrushes that break on transit, set exorbitant prices for tour tickets and release basic wooden boxes for $900. So, expect Beyoncé to sell a $620 clear perspex box you could buy from Muji for $30 when Dangerously in Love gets an anniversary edition release.
