Nintendo announce concerts to celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, and my wig is sent to Skyloft

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, which kinda blows my mind. 40 years!? Somebody done played an ocarina in this bitch. Because I truly cannot believe. The Legend of Zelda is 40 years old. Wow.

Nintendo held a Zelda Direct on 8th September to mark the occasion, where they shared a bunch of Zelda related news and releases, which included a full look at the Ocarina of Time remake along with a release date (2 weeks before Grand Theft Auto VI, square up hoe), the announcement that the upcoming live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda film will be titled…The Legend of Zelda, some Zelda Lego, a Zelda themed Switch 2, life-sized playable ocarina’s of time for sale and that Zelda Concerts will be held around the world in 2027. A lot of stuff and a lot of info. But we’re focusing on that last part for now.

The announcement of the Zelda concerts was preceded by a medley of songs from the series, performed by a full orchestra and choir at the Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall. The music was mesmerising. But the venue, the lighting and the way the performance was shot were equally as mesmerising. So, shouts out to the lighting director, cinematographer and director.

Koji Kondo. Sweetie. Come collect your Legend award, your Icon award, your Lifetime Achievement Award, your 40+ Years Employee Tenure award and your Outstanding Contribution to Music awards.

Imagine being able to say that you not only composed the Super Mario theme, but the theme for The Legend of Zelda. You would not be able to tell me shit.

The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Triforce Medley | Nintendo

I’ve been fortunate enough to attend a Zelda concert in the past for the 25th Anniversary of the franchise. The concert was around the time of the original Wii release of Skyward Sword, so we got to hear The Ballad of the Goddess live and I was ‘gagged’ as the kids say. Then Koji Kondo came out and started playing on the piano and I almost passed away. The only raggedy thing about the concert was the venue. It was at the Hammersmith Apollo, which was an absolute shit hole back then. So I am so glad that the Zelda concert in London this time around will be held at the Royal Albert Hall. It’s what The Legend of Zelda deserves. It’s where Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concerts in London used to be held. I’m a huge fan of the venue. So to be a video game fan, a music fan and a fan of the Royal Albert Hall, it’s kinda magical for me that I get to experience video game concerts there. And looking at the venues that the Zelda Concert is playing at, it seems like the concert will be held in some pretty great venues around the world too. Bitch. Sydney Opera House!?

Tickets are probably going to sell out with the QUICKNESS. Nintendo has not disclosed when the tickets will go on sale, other than ‘sometime in September’ and September is almost done. So expect announcements and tickets to go on sale within the next week or so. Be sure to follow the official Nintendo socials or just bookmark the websites below and check daily, which is what I’m doing. Tickets for Japan will probably be some lottery bullshit.
