Music video: Wonder girls featuring Akon - Like money

Music video: Wonder Girls featuring Akon - Like money | Random J Pop

This song is basic. And so is the video. I don't mind the song. The chorus is catchy, the girls' English is tight and you can hear that they have some vocal ability. I just find it a mess that JYP is having these girls drop these anybody style songs in the West which do not showcase Wonder girls' charms or exhibit what makes them so distinct in Korea. Especially when it's these songs and videos which will help them stand out in the Western market, as opposed to crap like this which will get glanced over and smothered by the countless other artists doing the exact same thing. I would have taken an English version of "Be my baby" over this. Or if we're talking absolute correctness, an English version of "Stop" from Wonder world.

Did Lim even open her mouth throughout this entire song or video?

  1. Why can't anybody learn? These k-pop acts trying to break into the States should stop trying to sound Americanized and start basically releasing k-pop songs in English. And wasn't there an English version of Be My Baby?

    1. Since when is K-pop not Americanized?

K-pop is basically just American Pop "re-invented" with Korean lyrics; it isn't it's own genre.

Ain't nobody from Asia going to break into the American music market though, it's a waste of money to try.

    2. A bit bitter, aren't we? I didn't say K-Pop was original, I'm just saying people don't want to hear something they've already heard a million times before.

    3. Bitter? At what? I'm not in the music industry, I couldn't give two fucks.

The point is, calling a K-pop song "Americanized" is ridiculous. The basis of K-pop is American music.

"I'm just saying people don't want to hear something they've already heard a million times before."

The charts speak differently, the song is doing really well.

    4. "The charts speak differently, the song is doing really well." < In America? lol

    5. Yeah, it charted in the American Itunes Electronic charts.

      And various other countries.

Not saying the song is any good, but saying "people don't want to hear something they've already hear a million times before" is false.

    6. @David

Actually the basis of K-Pop is American music, Japanese music, European music, and Korean music...

It's a melting pop of all of them. It's not just America.

    7. Actually, all pop comes from a basis of American music.

    8. @David, You may be right that a lot of people are happy to listen to something they've heard a million times before but that is not a good way for any Asian group/singer to try and crack the US in any big way which has been shown by acts like Utada, BoA, Se7en etc who all watered down their original sounds to some generic (some more than others) Americanised sound that got them nowhere but the bargain bin... Wonder Girls gained whatever success they've had in the US up until this point by being themselves musically, as soon as they Americanised with that crap song for a kids channel (don't remember which) and now this they haven't made any impact...
The only way an Asian artist FROM Asia is gonna make it big in the US is by being themselves, promoting and getting a label in the US to actually market them properly which is why to me the only people that look like they have a chance are 2NE1 and possibly BoA if her film is a success and SM learn from the mistakes with her first English album.

    9. @ Luke I believe the channel you're thinking of is Teen Nick.

  2. Just noticed JYP is the doctor in the video.

That man just CAN'T not be in a video. Jesus.

I'm off to look for him in the "Like This" MV. He's probably in there somewhere doing the stanky leg.

He owns JYP Entertainment and was a "singer."

    3. Well, that didn't go as planned.

Highlight it and copy/paste it into your search-bar to see the beauty of JYP.

    4. Ohhhh okay....that's him......that's a shame.

Yeah, I knew about JYP Entertainment, but I didn't know there was a person with that name behind it as well.

      Thanks.

Don't ever show me that picture again though. K?

  3. Omg! Love wonder girls but this video was so boring, the song didn't do it for me.
Their english was good but the lyrics suck, not even akon can save this flop.
Oh well hopefully their next single is better.

  4. Did you mean you would've taken THE english version of Be My Baby? because they already released an english version of that song, there's even an english version of the music video.

  5. Namiengrish songs are better than this LBR.

  6. This is so lameeee.... Even Utada's "Easy Breasy" shits on it and that's like the only bad thing she's ever done.

  7. Has anyone noticed that yenny was the only chick to were a different skirt on the end? Seriously if they were gonna put someone on the oppsite outfit then they should at least put them in the middle -_- on top of that they really shouldn't try to make them blind in with every other electro video because it just dosent fit their character and look.

    1. Are you referring to the silver outfits? All of the girls are wearing variations of the same outfit. The only member whose look deviates from the others is Lim - because her skirt is flared and her hair is lighter. But it didn't seem odd to me.

  8. How in the world did WG go from the catchy "Like This" to the redundant "Like Money"?

    This song is trash.
