Random J edit: Girls' Generation - I Got a Boy (The streamlined version)

Random J edit: Girls' Generation / SNSD / 소녀시대 - I Got a Boy | Random J Pop

As soon as I heard "I got a boy", I knew I was going to have to cut, paste and chop the shit out of it. I love the hook and the chorus of the song, but the structure is a mess and I am not trying to hear anybody tell me its amazingly avant garde and smooth. So I did something about it. And now I kinda think I'm falling for this ratchet nonsense of a song.

"I got a boy" had the potential to be amazing, but the bodged production and uninvited switches killed it dead for me. It's like zero fucks were given about the flow of the song and producing it in a way which felt fluid and cohesive. Perhaps that was the whole idea behind the song. But it still doesn't change that the song sounds like a YouTube album sampler.

So I edited in an attempt to streamline it. Some will prefer it, others won't. But it's an alternative take on a song which is dividing fans like the parted waters of Moses.

If SM want a truncated version of the song for these underfed tricks to perform on stage, they can use my version. They best send me a cheque though.

    1. It was horrid. When I heard it in the video I thought it was another track from the album that they shoehorned on. Until I heard the album and realized...it was part of the song.

  2. I can whip my hair to this shit, that nonsense rap intro was really killing me. Also in this version Sooyoung has no lines loll, I cackled upon realizing this

  3. Ladies and gentlemen - we finally have coherence! Thanks for sharing J.

I've heard a few re-arrangements of this song but I still can't get on board with it. I don't think I've really liked a Girls Generation track since 'Let it Rain'...and that was only 1 1/2 years ago, but they've released so much since then it feels longer!

    1. "Let it rain" was / still is a great song. Their Japanese debut on the whole was pretty solid. I still have a thing for "The great escape".

The more I listen to "I got a boy", the more I like it. I'm on the side of the fence that there is a really hot song in there somewhere, but it's completely lost in the lack of structure and the messy way in which about 4 different songs got slapped together.

    2. LOL "Let It Rain". So basically you just want them doing generic as fuck Stargate scraps. Okay. If you want that kind of music you should listen to Ne-Yo and 2NE1.

  4. I still hate the song, but you added all the coherence it needed and more, you sure had the work cut out for you putting together five songs into one.

  6. Keep this.

Embed doesn't work though so I can't hear it but I dont need to.

Like with you Random J, this song has grown on everybody at this point and it is a bonafide hit.

The girls took a risk with this "Before Its Time Undercover Desacrater", but it has for sure besmirched every single hater there was with every single jaunting transitional segue this song has to offer pass them lobes and straight to the drums. And you love it.

Fans may not have beem ready before but the girls gave them time because it is their generation and when these airwaves of magic hit the Japanese Circuit, best believe slants will align and school girls will become women. Yes Ma'am.

    1. I only grew to like the song as a result of editing the damn thing. I couldn't listen to the original version because it was / is such a mess of a song. Hence why I had to give it a cut 'n paste job in the first place.

"I got a boy" will be a hit because everything Girls' generation do ends up a hit. The quality of their songs have very little bearing on how well they chart.

    2. Will you be reviewing the entire album??

  7. You know, I liked the original up until I heard "Ay yo GG." And from there it was fucked. But your version...It's alright, I guess.

  8. Congrats, now it sounds like one cohesive song... I think SM should consider hiring you :P
BTW, are you going to review the whole IGAB album? I'm also waiting for your review of Girls and Peace :P

  9. This version is kind of boring and generic. It gets rid of everything that makes the song so interesting and exciting and makes it sound just like any other pop song out. The whole concept of the song is to have the outrageously jarring shifts so it sounds like musical channel surfing, as well as the shifts reflecting the tone of the girls' conversational chit-chat which makes up the 'singing'. The L.A. Times made a good comment in their glowing review when they said it was like "Bohemian Rhapsody" produced by Dr. Luke.

    1. Uh-oh, InnerRise, I think there is someone competing for your troll card.

O/T MUCH BETTER!!! It doesn't sound jarring or out of place in any part. Good job on the editing. I listened to it expecting everything I wanted in the actual song.
