As we all suspected when Crystal Kay was Instagramming non stop from the States' for weeks on end and tweeting about recording new material - Crystal Kay plans on making a US debut. I say 'might', because it seems her record label won't be supporting that shit. Crystal Kay has resorted to posting on some Japanese kickstarter page for fans to fund her US debut. Home girl could not have her chances of a well budgeted and supported US debut hit rock bottom any harder if Dwayne Johnson had held a bitch by the neck and threw her down on a pavement. Or if she was dead.

Crystal Kay's US debut now been left in the hands of a Japanese kickstarter. Just let that settle in for a second.

This girl is signed to an imprint of Universal. The fact that Universal aren't putting their own money into making shit work for Crystal speaks volumes. They clearly have no faith in her. I am shocked that CK would even go this route with her US debut, because it reeks of desperation. Surely she would have been better off giving head for an advance, using the money she stacked from those "Koi ni ochitara" sales, asking Beni for a cash loan. ANYTHING but this.

Crystal has set a goal of 5,000,000 yen. Here is what she's managed to get in the past 10 days since starting this mess.

Everybody had better join a church and put their forehead on an altar for this girl, because she ain't reaching that target goal unless Jesus makes it rain bread, wine and dollar bills.

Crystal was always going to struggle with a US debut, because history has shown that America don't give a shit about you if you are Japanese or Korean and trying to put out music. Every single Japanese and Korean act who has tried America has had to make a return trip back home with their tail between their legs. Crystal was always going to struggle more than those who had tried before due to her not having an amazingly successful career in Japan to piggy back off of. How big you are in Japan has no bearing on your success in the US at all, as you are essentially starting from scratch. But having record breaking figures to your name at least helps provide a nice artist profile and an instant point of reference. Hikaru Utada was able to roll into studios and be introduced as one of Japan's biggest pop stars with over 10 million units sold of her debut album in Japan alone, making it one of the best selling albums in Asian history. Nobody is expecting this type of record breaking from every artist, but some hits wouldn't go amiss. Crystal Kay has only had one hit album and one hit single.

Crystal starting from scratch in the US may not be a completely bad idea. One thing which could work in her favour is that she does not look Japanese, which removes the J-Pop stigma. She is gorgeous and would look stunning on the cover of  magazines. She can also speak and sing fluently in English. She is no vocal slouch and can go toe-to-toe with bitches in the States. Vivid proved Crystal could deliver a worldwide sound and absolutely nail it.

If Crystal doesn't even have minimal funding from the record label she is signed to, then she needs to go back to the drawing board with this whole idea, because a Japanese Kickstarter which NOBODY is bothering to pledge to is not the answer. I really do hope something comes of this and that an English language album will be released in Japan at the very least regardless. Because CK has been recording non stop for the past 6 months with some great talent and I'd hate for those sessions to fall into the abyss simply because her Japanese kickstarter goal wasn't reached. And we all know she ain't reaching that for shit.

  1. I saw the cover on SoundCloud and thought it was some low quality demo that got leaked XD

  2. Lawd have mercy, I've got my knees on the altar and my hands to the sky for this girl!! I'd *love* to see a real attempt at cracking the American urban-pop charts (all that Japanese on Dum Ditty Dumb backfired on her, even though that beat would get a nigga hopping with quickness), because we all know she'd start snatching wigs faster than Beyonce snatches songwriting credits. It's a freaking shame that her label couldn't back her US venture (seriously Universal, you're the biggest in the game!! Can't you show this fabu girl a lil bit more love XD), but we'll see what comes from this.

  3. Correction: Utada's Debut Album IS the highest selling Album in Japanese History.

    Let's not.

    Also.......

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahhahahhahaha!

And you know once your money is in Kickstarter it's gone right.

Home gUuUrl living off that money right now. That ain't to fund no album. Thats to fund her life.

She gon' be 70 years old with a kickstarter still active somewhere asking to help fund an American Debut. Nope. She like living.

  4. This KILLS and I mean KILLS me!!! She is seriously such a good performer who seems to be so positive. She is in the US making connections and actually GIVING A FUCK about her career but seemingly nothing is coming of it. Why would Universal do that??? They have money! She can do so much, but people won't invest in her.... but I'm sure some mediocre white 2 octave singing plain ass bitch like Miss Call Me Maybe will get millions of hits on youtube. She deserves so much, and for some reason she's not getting it. She's a great person and all she wants is to be on top where she so rightfully belongs. Maybe she's too nice and she needs to be a bitch..... I mean lots of bitches are at the top..... Whatever, I just need this amazing woman to skyrocket somehow. Since I don't have yen, i'm gonna just pray to the Music Industry gods.

  7. Dude you're taking it too far... I got nothing against her, i just don't like her fans, because like you stated: Most of them get pissed off but surely don't do shit to support her, running your mouth online won't help her get some sales.

Po' thang, i know i've made fun of her flops in the past, but this shit is serious... Asking for funding on kickstarter because your label doesn't give a shit... That's sad. I can't imagine how does she feel right now, she must be really sad.

  9. One cannot hate on her for trying every possible way to put out her music. But maybe she should try to just get her name out there by doing some modeling, hosting and things like that. Then after having acquired a bit of fame she can start to pursue a music career in the U.S.

  10. According to the translation of the J-Crowd piece, the funding is for a promotional video, not her whole endeavor in the US. We don't know what Universal is or is not doing but I find it hard to believe that they are not supporting her here in the states. She's been working with writers and such and has filmed at least one video that she's mentioned (not the guest appearance). We all know that promoting someone as the next big thing is not going to work. They seem to be taking a measured approach and trying different things and what's wrong with that?

  11. I can't speak for other fans here, but I've actually purchased Crystal's music. If she releases a single on iTunes ill buy it, but I'm not going to donate to some Kickstarter when she's no where near her goal and We know she's not gonna reach It. For that I'll donate to a charitable organization. If she doesn't have the funds for her U.S endeavors then she needs to go back to the drawing board. If she's going to do this shit, she needs to do it right and She needs to make connections with someone other than Travis Mcflop.

  12. Anyone can get a translator and convert some non-Japanese currency into yen, I realize, but isn't this meant to be for Japanese fans to support her? For the highest donation level (for 3 people, at roughly $20K?), you get a private concert, like at a wedding or some event of your choice. I don't think she's thinking that foreigners are going to translate her radio message, her website with all this info on it, convert currency, and then demand that she show up at their wedding in some random part of the world. My point is, the way it's set up, it's hard for her non-Japanese fans living outside of Japan to support her. They don't want our moneys now! They want us to save it for later when she "debuts" and releases a video for $1.99 with flying sushi, stabbing chopsticks, and other random (even possible offensive, with that imperialist flag implied in the background) Japanese imagery floating around! Keep your wallets shut until Beni and BoA open theirs up to make her and our dreams come true!
