Music video: Kylie Minogue - Sexercize

Kylie Minogue punk'd the internet and shut down my entire weekend with her "Sexercize" video - which is pretty much a 2014 skank redux of fellow Aussie Olivia Netwon-John's "Physical".

Pretty much every review of her 12th studio album Kiss me once has panned this song, citing it the worst track on the album, yet here it is as a second single. Society tends to dictate that women shouldn't really be selling sex in such a manner past a certain age, but here's Kylie - slow grinding on a pummel horse and pelvic thrusting on an exercise ball at the age of 45.

The internet is in a state of outcry over Kylie's hyper-sexualized video - calling her classless, crass, desperate and vulgar for a woman of her age. I love this video. I have always found Kylie to be a little pedestrian in everything she's ever done, so I quite like she's done something to ruffle a few feathers and rub people up the wrong way.

With a song title like "Sexercize" from a woman who has been selling sex visually for the past decade, I'm not sure what people were expecting from this video. The song and visual does what it says on the tin. The whole thing is tongue in cheek and silly. But the real humdinger is that despite this whole thing being a joke, Kylie did such a good a job with the sexiness that it's all become something different entirely. I don't think it was Kylie Minogue's intention to make any form of grand statement with this video, but I think she may have inadvertently made one - which is that a woman can be sexier and more desirable in her 40's than most girls in their 20's. Kylie isn't the only example of this. Women in music and films have been bringing this point home for years. But it's always nice to have it re-affirmed and Kylie re-affirmed it nicely. The booty does not lie.

Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Miley are wishing they could look as hot in their 20's as Kylie does leading this non PG-13 P.E class in her 40's.
