I checked out of M-Flo's music a good while ago. After Cosmicolor, that shit fell off real hard. A real shame, because M-Flo were one of the more interesting acts on the J-music scene. Great videos. Great collaborations. All-around feel good vibes. But as DJ Taku and Verbal's personal interests started to shift more into DJ'ing, show producing and fashion respectively, the music took a hit. One of the best things they did however, was to bring the original third member Lisa back into the fold. I can't say that it's saved the music. But it's certainly brought a lot of the fun back into M-Flo that seemed to be missing. The three-piece's latest venture is a monthly (kinda-ish) radio show, where they talk about their experiences on a range of topics, usually relating to each other.
A snippet of the first episode hit the Internets accompanied in the form of a short anime. Not full blown though. Think Cartoon Network's Space ghost coast to coast.
If M-Flo's team happen to come across this post, y'all need to put full episodes of your radio show up on YouTube with these anime visuals. Yes. It'd cost extra money, but I know y'all have it. Of course it'd never happen, because we know how Japan feels about YouTube and how they love to ~short version~ everything.
Taku, Verbal and Lisa still have a great rapport and such a fun energy about them, which makes me even more pressed that their music has become a
Mortal Portal radio airs every fourth Thursday from 9pm - 10pm (JST). You can catch episodes online at Block FM (which was founded by DJ Taku), where each episode will stay live for a month. Interesting. Y'all could just save and release them as podcasts where they can stay live...for longer. But again, Japan.
There is no talk of a new album at this point, but that could change. This radio show could be a run up to that. Maybe they'll play new music during the show. Maybe Mortal Portal will be the name of the next album and this whole Space adventurer, orange jumpsuit thing will be the concept.
Stay tuned.
