Rina Sawayama features in a MAC cosmetics commercial. Still no album.

Rina Sawayama for MAC cosmetics' Mary J. Blige collab 'Love me' | Random J Pop

MAC cosmetics and Mary J. Blige go way the fuck back. MAC cosmetics have been running Mary J. Blige her cheques since before a bitch found happiness.

Mary is all about self-empowerment. And with her now being divorced, of course she went and dropped a lipstick called 'Love me'. Along with it came a promotional video which features a diverse roster of talent, including Amber 'Me too bitch, the fuck' Wagner, Harper 'Stripper heels on a treadmill' Watters, Halima 'The face' Aden, Maxine 'the chick that dropped "Perpetual nights" then disappeared' Ashley and Rina 'The first LP is a myth' Sawayama.

The video features The Cardigans' "Lovefool", a song that would have made a nice cover for Rina and Maxine. But I guess MAC didn't wanna appear biased. And maybe it'd be weird to have two other girls singing a cover of a song for a lipstick collaboration from a far more popular singer who is more than capable of singing the song herself.

Anyway.

MAC cosmetics have been running campaigns and showcasing diversity and love for the LGBT community for as long as I can remember, and it's good to see that they're still doing it. MAC smartly hit every level of 'celebrity' with this campaign; acknowledging that 'celebrity' is different to what it once was due to the rise of social media stars, and how big make-up is within that space.

In the case of Rina, it'd be really good if some of these stints came with some music, but a bitch is still denying us.

In more Rina news though, she will be joining Charli XCX as an opening act on the UK stop of her tour. I might get a ticket just to see her. I might also make a banner that says 'WHERE'S THE ALBUM BITCH?'. Charli XCX loves to collaborate and has no issues sharing spotlight, so there's every chance that Rina may end up appearing during Charli's gig to step in as a guest artist on songs which have features or just to fuck around with her on stage.

I joke about the lack of an album, but I am cool with it just dropping whenever Rina feels its ready. For some, albums can take a lot of time. And the timing of the release is crucial, because if she drops it at the wrong time, it could be the last album she puts out. It's clear that all of these side gigs that she's doing isn't just to pay the rent, but to get her name out there. I just hope that the window that will make an album release viable and successful opens for her soon and that it pays off. She's a pop star that more need to be aware of, and it'd be a shame to see her disappear with only an EP and a couple of singles to her name.
