Album covers + tracklist: Perfume The best P³

Album covers + tracklist: Perfume The best P³ | Random J Pop

Perfume have revealed the album covers for their Best album and thankfully P cubed has been stylised as P³ - as I'd done from the start. I dunno what it is with Japan spelling out everything so literally all the time.

The regular edition shows Perfume in outfits that look like they could be serving something fashionably retro, but I know when we get a good look at them, they're going to look fucking hideous. I don't know what conversation Kashiyuka had with Perfume's style team, but she clearly told them 'Fuck mini skirts' because those hems been near hitting the floor for a minute. I also have no idea what pose Nocchi is pulling in this photo. But those legs warmers over the heels be on that same sabotage game they tried to pull with her Future pop outfit.

The full tracklist for the album has also been revealed and is what you'd expect. The second new song "Challenger" kicking off the first disc of the compilation makes me wonder if it will be a full song, an intro or perhaps both, as per LEVEL3's "Enter the sphere".

A pretty inoffensive tracklisting. It's a solid set of songs. There was always enough slots for them to include more or less every physical and digital single, and then some. It's nice to see they included "Hurly burly" and interesting that they chose to go with the album mix of "Magic of love", but not "Cling cling", when the album mix of that song is so superior to the single version. But I am definitely shocked that there's no "Glitter".

My only gripe with the tracklist, if I had to nitpick, was that I wish they didn't just run the songs in almost chronological order of when they had released / debuted. I get why Best albums do it. But creating a sense of flow with the songs would be a nice change, because this running order won't provide the best listening experience. There are certain songs here that just don't work together and others that would. "Star train" into "Story"? Ending a disc with "1mm"? "My color" before "Spring of life"?

Choices.

Perfume: The best P³ will be released physically and digitally globally on September 18, 2019.
