Dr. Melissa Elliott spills some tea on radio

Dr. Melisa Elliott is experiencing what is easily the most press and promo that she's ever received in her career, with her involvement in Moulin Rouge coming in at a close second.

Missy hit up Angie Martinez and Sway's radio shows where she shot the shit on her career and how she see's things now in comparison to 14 years ago. Missy gave up a lot of information which was new about things which are old, which is wild considering that she's been in the game for over 20 years. It just goes to show how little attention was really being paid to Missy over the years, and also how much people missed her.

Both interviews were chilled and laid back, because Missy has history with both hosts. But it also felt like both interviews were a quick fire round with Missy, because neither knew if she'd ever be in this position again, given the perfect storm of events which have surrounded Missy over the past few months leading up to her EP drop and receiving MTV's Video vanguard award.

Both interviews are worth a watch. But in case y'all are lazy, I'mma rundown the takeouts.

What did Dr. Melissa share?

• Missy was sick as fuck when she performed at the VMA's.
• Missy has recorded another song with Lizzo, which will feature on her upcoming release.
• Missy being diagnosed with Graves disease was one of the main reasons she stepped out of the spotlight for so long.
• Missy has never once recorded any of her vocals with Timbaland or any other producer in the studio with her, as she always prefers to record alone and engineer her own sessions.
• A bitch has 7 houses. All paid for. No mortgages.
• Dr. Melissa does not have a private jet, because a bitch wants to save money.
• Missy is very financially conscious.
• Missy still be walking round doing her own shopping and shit like she ain't a multi Grammy award winning artist and celebrity.
• Missy is a homebody.

The fact that Missy is so big on saving money made me smile and mutter 'Yes bitch'. So many celebs be out here flossing like their money ain't ever gonna run out. Especially those who only have one album out and be throwing money all about the place like they're six albums deep in their career with businesses and investments. Missy was here to tell those folks 'Money can run out real fast'. So she made sure those houses was paid for and said 'no' to a private jet, so no matter what happens, what's hers is HERS. Ain't nobody gonna come throw her ass out and make her fly back to Africa how Jidenna got done.

What did Dr. Melissa share?

• Missy Elliott hated "Gossip folks" when Timbaland played it for her, but he made her record it, because he felt it's what the album (Under construction) needed.
• "Get ur freak on" was the last song recorded for Miss E...So addictive. Timbaland produced it reluctantly, as he felt the album was already done prior, whilst Missy felt it was missing something. That something being "Get ur freak on".
• The reverse vocals in "Work it" is Missy saying 'Is your pussy wet yet'
• A new album is coming, because Missy's record label be on that ass for it.
• Missy, Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah have executive produced a film about the Clarke sisters which will be released in 2020.
• "DripDemeanour" will be the next single off of her EP Iconology.
• Missy planned to bring Timbaland  during her VMA performance, but she was only given 7 minutes and didn't have enough time; despite Justin being giving 15 minutes and Beyoncé being given enough time to perform a whole album.
• Missy used to use her music videos to help people 'get' her songs, because the sound was so different and she knew people might not be able to latch onto the music alone.

Missy's optimism is admirable and inspiring, even for a pessimistic piece of shit like me. After watching this particular interview, it's no surprise that so many aspects of her life and her career haven't been revealed, because she is very protective of her own life and the energy which surrounds it. She is also incredibly humble. She blushes when people speak her praises and always deflects and shows nothing but respect for other artists. You will never hear Missy talking shit about anybody, and it's one of many reasons why Missy is so respected within all circles and why she continues to receive so much love.
