The gamers amongst you may have heard of a little game that came out a while ago called Death Stranding, which is Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima's first original game since the release of Metal Gear Solid 5, and also his first title released through his own company Kojima productions.
Now, anybody who has been following Hideo Kojima on Twitter will know that this man be spending MONEY and doing the most unnecessary things for his games. We saw it when he was at Konami with Metal Gear Solid. But his shit has been on whole new levels now that he has his own company. His CFO must have heart attacks on a regular basis.
With Death Stranding, Hideo decided he wanted a soundtrack. Not just of an original score, but original music from popular artists. Death Stranding: Timefall features original songs from Major Lazer and Khalid amongst others. But Scottish band CHVRCHES have the honour of the game title track itself and it's a good 'un.
Based on what I'd seen of Death Stranding, this song threw me. Because sonically it's so disparate to the tone and vibe of the game, even though the lyrics of the song fit perfectly. It's weird. It'd be like a Megan The Stallion song in Breath of the Wild. But Death Stranding: Timefall was most definitely a case of Hideo Kojima just seeing if he could get artists that he likes to make songs for his game, even though these songs weren't really needed for the game. Death Stranding: Timefall basically sounds like picks from Hideo's iPod. Not a bad thing. It's quite cool to see video games being marketed akin to a major feature film. Hideo Kojima has stated that he wants to venture into films and for Kojima productions to branch out beyond just games anyway, so...that explains a lot.
"Death Stranding" is a great song. If you like what you heard here, I'd urge you to listen to the studio recording. The mix in this performance was a bit off, as the music completely overpowered Lauren.
