Music video: Shiina Ringo & Hikaru Utada play lesbian Tetris in "Roman to soroban" | Random J Pop

This video had leaked a while ago, and I'm sure most Hikaru Utada fans had seen it already with the way download links were flying around. But it's officially been released, and so now I can actually talk freely about this shit and share the video without fear of my whole blog being shut down.

But in all honesty I just didn't wanna disrespect Shiina like that. I can imagine how shit it is when you plan something and want it to be a surprise, just for the bitch to leak.

Beyoncé can't relate.

Ringo Shiina and Hikaru Utada are together again, this time on Shiina's turf. "Roman to soroban" features on Ringo's first ever Best album Newton no ringo ~Hajimete no best ban~. And in a stroke of what I am calling genius and knowing what the geis and the fandom wants, this is pretty much a continuation of sorts of what we got from "Nijikan dake no vacance". Back then we got a lesbian holiday in space, now we get powerful lesbians playing Tetris. The inclusion of Tetris a really cool touch, as Hikki fans know that Tetris is one of her fave games to play and she's fucking good at it.

This video was everything. I truly love that Shiina and Hikaru have really embraced their femininity, sensuality and sexuality in new ways as they've gotten older. Ringo's always toyed with it in different forms over the years, playing it like a caricature, and she still kinda does. But now it's feels as though she's accepted these are all representations of her. And ever since becoming a mother and returning to music with Fantôme, Hikaru Utada just exudes this whole new level of confidence in how she shows herself that she never really had before. Either because she was too young or she just wasn't feeling it. But it's a beautiful thing to see. Especially from two women who are at points in their careers where they have nothing to prove and have always done things on their own terms.

I also really like the song. However, Hikaru sounded far better on it than Ringo did. Shiina and Hikaru's voices are both an acquired taste. Ringo more so, because it is so shrill. But Ringo was low key unbearable on this song. Hikaru by comparison was in the right range and suited it far better.

I could definitely go for a joint album from these two.
